i really want to make one of these amazing ties from the purl bee for jamie, but am hestitating only because they do seem to have a lot of steps... you may know how i am about steps.
but they're so cool! and i was recently reminded how expensive good ties really are - and how many truly awful ones there are out there - when we were buying some fancy new duds for jamie's business trip to japan. at those prices, and with rather limited options, it makes sense to diy... plus, if i could gather my wits and make a dress shirt too, i would have utter creative control over the upper half of his wardrobe! ;-) so i'll jut have to add this to my list. pretty sure it won't get done in time for this father's day, but someday...

So I decided that I wanted to start collecting "things" 2 weeks ago. Problem was I couldn't decide what one thing to collect so I decided I might as well go with everything I was thinking of at that moment. This included picture books, handmade toys, and more relevantly...ties. I quickly discovered that deciding on collecting ties (relatively easy) and actually finding fun ties (err less easy) are too very different tasks. "Limited options" indeed. I discovered this after hours of exploring online. I envy your DIY skills. Please post pics if you tackle all those steps to make your own, if only so I can live vicariously through you.
PS: My new favorite tie store is: http://www.jpressonline.com/neckwear_patterned.php?page=all
thanks so much for that link brad - those ties are awesome! it's odd how the one element of "formal" work attire for men that is open to creative interpretation offers such limited choices in regular stores. i guess it's a good thing my husband is in IT and can wear subversive tshirts to work a lot of the time...
i will definitely post a result for this project when (very eventually!) i get it done. ;-)
